About Matt Lovell

I was raised on a small potato and grain farm in Ririe, Idaho. Growing up this way, I learned that value of hard work. My wonderful Mother, Hope Lovell, instilled values within me that I still employ this day. After graduating from Ririe High School, I was fortunate to attend college at Brigham Young University-Idaho until I began my career in law enforcement with the Bannock County Sheriff's Office.

I spent a short time working in the Bannock County Detention Center before I was promoted to a patrol deputy. There I spent the bulk of my career rising through the ranks until I was promoted to the rank of Detective Sergeant. Throughout most of my career, I focused on DUI and Drug Interdiction. I was certified as a High-Liability Instructor through Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) in the areas of firearms, use of force, and tactical team operations. While working full time, I attended classes and completed by Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from Regent University.

One of the greatest experiences I enjoyed as a law enforcement officer was the opportunity to serve as a member of the Southeast Idaho Special Tactics and Response (STAR) Team. As a part of this team, I responded to high-risk calls for service and conducted high-risk search warrant executions. Toward the end of my time with the team, I was voted as an Entry Team Leader by the officers I served with. The relationships formed on this team are ones that will last forever.

After fourteen years of service with Bannock County Sheriff's Office, my family and I moved to Boise so I could attend law school at  Concordia University School of Law. Upon Concordia's closure, I transferred and completed my Juris Doctorate with honors at The University of Idaho College of Law. While attending law school, I worked for the Boise County Sheriff's Office as a detective. I am currently a reserve deputy with Boise County and will continue to serve in that capacity for the foreseeable future.

While a student at U of I, I completed an externship with the Idaho Attorney General's Office, and was retained as a research assistant during the duration of prepping for the bar exam. Upon successfully passing the bar exam, I began working as a Deputy Attorney General, in the Special Prosecutions Unit of the Criminal Division. The experiences and friendships gained in this position will forever shape who I am today. Ultimately, I entered private practice working for the man who started police defense in Idaho, Joseph Filicetti. After working with Joe for some time, I started Lovell Law, PLLC, and I am honored to serve the officers and citizens of Idaho.

When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my wife Janette and my children Rendon, Brylee and Jayci, to whom I owe everything.
